After watching the show online last year, I decided to get myself tickets to the Paleyfest, a Los Angeles event held each spring, sponsored by the Paley Foundation and this year, at the Dolby Theater. The festival ran March 6-15, opening with the Teen Wolf panel and ending with the American Horror Story cast on stage. Tickets for Paleyfest run from $30+, and there are about 3,400 seats to be filled. It was exciting to see the different types of fans gathered for the show. Sometimes I tend to feel a little out of place with a sea of middle-aged white, male faces at these types of events, but in the orchestra section where I sat (yeah, I sprang for the good seats), I saw at least half a dozen black girl nerds, which made me quite happy!

While there are usually only single show panels, the Saturday, March 14 event was special in that audiences received two panels for the price of one. Hosted by the adorable Aisha Tyler, the show began with the Arrow cast, along with Executive Producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and rounded out with the cast of the Flash, along with Berlanti and Kreisberg, once again. I received the pleasure of seeing both producers on the Showrunners Panel at WonderCon last year, and I must say, they are brilliant creators who have a real vision for both of these very successful shows and I’m excited to see how future seasons pan out.

In attendance from the Arrow cast: Stephen Amell, Colton Haynes, Emily Bett Rickards, John Barrowman, Katie Cassidy, Willa HollandDavid Ramsey, Paul Blackthorne; Executive Producers: Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim.

In attendance from the Flash cast: Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Candice Patton, Rick Cosnett, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes; Executive Producers: Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg.

Spoilers ahead, Sweetie (seriously, if you aren’t caught up with both shows, read at your own risk!)

I gush often about Arrow, Olicity and Stephen Amell on this blog but after recent episodes, I feel compelled to share a few, short character sketches to help you get to know the amazing female cast members of one of the best shows on television.

Basically, I need to vent about the awesomeness of Arrow.

Next Wednesday, May 14, is the season 2 finale of the show and I definitely plan on writing a mostly-angsty post about the comic book adapation. Until then, I want to introduce you to the strong and capable women of the Arrow universe. Without them, the show would not have as much of the depth or emotion as it gained in this season. (Spoilers Ahead!)

Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson)

Matriarch of the Queen family, Moira is a shrewd business woman and a fierce mama bear to her babies. If Moira has a talent for anything, it is keeping secrets. Her involvement with Malcolm Merlyn, the Undertaking and her own husband’s kidnapping as well as her fearless attack on the Hood to protect those secrets proves she is not to be messed with. Moira quickly becomes a complex character with her own visions and goals in terms of what she wants for her family and Starling City. In season 2, we see Moira working to make the city she helped destroy a better place by running for mayor. Still, her positive works are not enough to keep her children from holding some serious grudges. First Oliver disowns his mother and then Thea wants nothing to do with her when she finds out that Malcolm Merlyn is her real father. Even after all she’s done to renew her reputation in the community, Moira is alienated as a liar by her children because of past mistakes and isn’t redeemed until she is on her knees in front of the murderous Slade Wilson. After revealing she’s known Oliver’s secret identity since the Undertaking, (Spoiler! He’s the Hood/Arrow) the relationship with her son is repaired but it isn’t until the ultimate self-sacrifice–Moira’s life for that of her children–that Thea understands the depth of her mother’s love. Even Slade stands in awe at the fact that Moira volunteers, without fear, to die. It epitomizes all that Moira stands for and it is the act that pushes Thea away from Starling City.

I know I’m a bit late to the party, but as I’m sure you realize, I am in a lot of fandoms. This week, I’ve been quite under the weather and with nothing to do but explore Netflix and sleep, I started in on my next television show obsession, Arrow. I’ve been wanting to watch this show ever since I saw this pic:

And then there is this one, posted only last week on Twitter when Jared and Stephen went to a Pearl Jam concert together. Where’s my invite, boys??

SWOON. My ovaries have officially exploded.

It’s been a while since we met at the crossroads, friend.

Let's make a deal.
Let’s make a deal.

So, the mid-season finale. Yeah. Kevin Tran. Yeesh. And SAM?? Poor moose. Poor MOOSE!! Honestly, though, I feel for Dean, whom, it seems, will never catch a break. His lies have set in motion a fearful end to season 9, including the death of the Collectress’ new crush, Kevin Freaking Solo. Supernatural returns from Hellatus January 14, 2014, and I don’t have much to add to the spoiler list as of now. Looking back at previous spoilers we’ve talked about this season, I was excited to see some of them come to fruition last night. Metatron is still a douche, and he did indeed meet up with Sam/Zeke/Gadreel in a dark alley, amongst other places. The problem still remains, what the hell are we supposed to do during the Hellatus?? For one, I suggest you visit Twitter and Orlando Jones‘ tweets for the past couple of episodes. Apparently, the man is a Destiel shipper who watches SPN each week and finally decided to get in on the action with the fans on Twitter. Between Orlando, Jared, Osric and Stephen Amell from Arrow, the celeb tweeting during “Holy Terror” S09xE09 felt like an epic snark battle of wits.

The fans loved it.
