Ahoy! The Collected Mutineer here. The Collectress has taken the majority of this week off in preparation to post her epic DCBB tomorrow. As such, this may be my only chance to have a go at Fanfic Wednesday. So of course, I chose not one, but three Sherlock fics. You’re welcome.

I love a good Johnlock. I love a good Johnlock even more when the author has a definitive grasp of Sherlock Holmes’ point of view. That may seem like an obvious requirement, but it can be difficult to write the world’s only consulting detective, and remain in character. Whenever I find a story that captures him properly, I bookmark it, regardless of tags, genre, WIP, pairing, or warnings. Give me a proper Sherlock Holmes, and I’m a happy girl.

The Progress of Sherlock Holmes

Author: ivyblossom

Pairings: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson

Word Count: 62,006

Author’s Synopsis: Sherlock is head over heels for John, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at him. First-person present-tense series of short scenes from Sherlock’s point of view, borrowing heavily from Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories.

My Thoughts: This is the king of Sherlock POVs. If you’ve read ivyblossom’s The Quiet Man, then you know how freakishly good she is at first person present tense. She immerses you so well into the mind of the character that you almost forget you’re just reading a story. And on top of it, she manages an easy-to-read stream of consciousness that isn’t confusing or bogged down by unimportant details. In this narrative, we get a fantastic look at the inner workings of Sherlock’s constantly engaged mind. We fall in love with his brilliance all over again, and of course, get front row seats to him falling in love with John. This story is beautiful for so many reasons, and one to which I will undoubtedly return.

Happy Wednesday, Shippers!

I’ve been waiting ALL summer to rec this one. I read it while it was still in-progress, and every update e-mail was a small gift from the fanfic gods, and a beloved respite from the DCBB writing mayhem that was my summer.

You may recognise the author. She’s responsible for one of the Destiel ship’s most popular (and smutty) fanfics: “Carry On.” Which, if you haven’t read, you definitely should.

Title: In A Land of Prats and a Time of Zombies         Author: jinkandtherebels

About After Camlann

I’m back, shippers!

Yes, after a summer off from reccing fanfic, I have returned to you, my faithful followers of my fleet of ships. I hope you enjoyed the Collectiva Diva’s recs over the past ten weeks or so, but no fear, I’ve been doing my reading and I have a lovely list of fics to rec to you over the next few months. Let me also draw your attention to the lovely header that my dear Collected Mutineer has created for Fanfic Wednesday. Swoon away.

Now, before I jump into my review of this week’s fic, let me explain the need for my hiatus from reccing. I took on a big task this summer: I participated in not one but two Big Bang fanfic challenges and I needed the time to write. However, from this mighty task came several fanfics to rec! My first BB extravaganza was the After Camlann challenge, which is for the BBC Merlin fandom. The requirements for this challenge were to create a story with a length of at least 25,000 words, from which the artist you were paired with would draw inspiration for their works. The best part about participating in this challenge was reading the other participants’ fics and swooning over the art, and one of the first I read also happens to be my favourite.  Allow me to introduce you to the Merlin/Warm Bodies fusion.

This is it, my friends. The last Fanfic Wednesday post by yours truly, the Diva, and I’ve been compiling this list all summer long. On October 7, 9pm on the CW, season 10 of Supernatural premieres with a newly demonized Dean Winchester. I leave you with 7 of my favorite Demon!Dean fics, to help prepare for the upcoming angst I have a feeling we are in for. Some are gen, some are smutty, but most of these stories read better than the S10 promos and that’s…troubling and awesome at the same time. The transformative community really knows how to take a canon theme and create works that not only reveal the weaknesses of a Dean without the boundaries imposed by network execs (and bad writing), but also remains true to the man who fans wish/hope/dream Dean Winchester is capable of being–with the help of Sam and Cas, of course. Over the summer, promotions for S10 have been confusing and seem very OOC for the Dean Winchester who has undoubtedly evolved over the years. The “frat boy” image of the promos is not good enough for me! I need more depth, show writers. Enter these amazing takes on Demon!Dean and the struggle to balance his human existence with demonic desires.

Enjoy and thanks for spending the summer reading fanfic with me!

1) there’s a light in your eye that keeps shining

Author: xylodemon

Word Count: 1,463

Summary: Cas only sees Dean’s humanity.

Pairing: Castiel/Dean Winchester

My Thoughts

In my S10 head canon, I see Sam and Castiel working together to save Dean. Not only that, but in this story, Cas realizes he’s been in love with Dean for a long time and he does something about it. This is pretty much exactly how I wish/hope/dream the season premiere would go down.

With our emotionally (physically, mentally) draining Big Bang stories written and submitted last week, plus all the personal and professional changes coming in the near future for Team Collective, I figured a few, well timed kitten!fics full of fluff and sweet and NO ANGST might be necessary. I couldn’t pick a ship, so we are visiting 3 this week.

1) Johnlock

Title: Can’t Say No

Author: cold_feet

Characters: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson

Word Count: 1111

The author’s description: John comes out of the kitchen brandishing a package of HobNobs. “Sherlock, if you think I’m going to mind after her, you, whatever it is you’re growing in the fridge, plus one of those–” In which Sherlock and John have a daughter. And kittens, apparently.

My Thoughts:

Kittens, babies and domestic Johnlock? Yes, please sir, may I have another? Thanks to my dear Collectress, who shared with me this most adorable Johnlock kitten!fic when she knew I needed it.
