At the tail-end of last week’s episode, we caught a brief glimpse of what happened to Wonkru after spending six long years trapped underground with no hope of escaping. The internet was awash with theories of what the title “red queen” meant, and how we might see Octavia become the commander who was promised at the end of season 4. In true The 100 fashion, the episode was filled to the brim with ethical questions about how to be a leader at the end of the world, with plenty of blood to accompany said questions. But is the story of the Red Queen one we’ve already seen?

The long-awaited season 5 premiere of The 100 finally hit our TV screens last Tuesday, providing fans with a small handful of answers. The 6 year time jump and the incredible cliffhanger at the end of season 4 had many of us worried. How did Clarke survive? How did the bunker survive? How did SpaceKru survive? And who the hell is on the mysterious ship? We don’t get all our concerns addressed in the first episode, but we’ve been given a glimpse of what happened on Earth after Praimfaya.

I just returned home from seeing The Post, and it is perhaps the most highly anticipated Best Picture nominee for me this year. Not only does it have apt timing for the current political climate, but it also stars two of my favorite Hollywood actors: America’s Dad Tom Hanks and Hollywood’s Queen Meryl Streep. Star power aside, the film resonates with anyone who has been paying attention to journalism for the past year and a half.
