When I started this blog in 2013, it was with the purpose of writing about the things I enjoy with my friends, specifically fandoms and fandom culture.
This post, however, is not about fandom, or memes, or my newest celebrity crush (it’s totally Henry Cavill, by the way).
This blog post is about the most important thing happening this year in America: the 2020 election.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that 2020 has not been kind to any of us. There’s been a global pandemic, civil unrest in many parts of the world, natural disasters, and a long overdue reckoning about systemic racism in the United States…and as of me typing this, it is only August!
Comic-Con International’s virtual gathering, aka Comic-Con@Home, is off to a bang with Preview Night. The digitally organized exhibit hall is live, panels and games have begun, and we here at the Collective are basking in the nerddom.
Not even a pandemic can keep nerds from being, well, super nerdy. Although conventions around the globe have been canceled and postponed, the world-famous Comic-Con International (AKA SDCC) is coming right to your living room this week from tomorrow, July 22, through Sunday, July 26. Oh, and did we mention that since it’s not taking place in San Diego, everyone can enjoy the content regardless of badge status?
The Collective Crew hasn’t missed SDCC since we were blessed with press badges back in 2015, and we aren’t about to stop now. Keep reading for the scoop on what to expect from this year’s Comic-Con@Home!

Dear Collectors,
It’s been a while since I posted. I could tell you it’s because I’ve been working double time to make sure I don’t get furloughed, or that I’ve been sewing masks every spare moment for our medical workers and my high-risk friends and family. Really, I think the truth is that it’s because of what I’m calling “quarantigue” AKA that feeling you get when you’ve been stuck inside for 39 days and you no longer remember what day of the week it is.

It’s a scary world right now.
Many of us, myself included, are afraid to go outside. Many people still have to go outside, even though it’s putting themselves at direct risk of contracting COVID-19. Economies are plummeting, businesses are closing, and it seems every thirty seconds there’s news of something else being cancelled.
The only thing we can’t cancel, it seems, is 2020.
Aside from this blog, Chris Evan’s dog, and Cate Blanchett, my greatest love is probably cosplay. I love designing, I love creating, and I love collaborating with artists who share passions similar to mine. I’ve learned a lot about the community over the past few years, and I’ve learned that one of the most important relationships/connections that a cosplayer can foster is the one between photographer and cosplayer (you can read my post detailing the intricacies of this relationship here).
