Thick as thieves: the latest D&D clips are here

The newest international trailer, a “meet the characters” featurette, and an original song for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves dropped in the last few days, landing among a horde of excited fans.

Game-to-movie adaptations are nothing new these days; if anything, they’re old hat (and I don’t just mean because D&D has had film versions before). This type of media is rampant on both the big and small screens. So what’s going to be different about this one?

It can be hard to know before something has actually been screened, but at the moment, it appears that all signs point right to the crossroads of fun and funny. Many who are looking forward to the film (especially fans who actively play the original D&D board game) have cited the humor present in all the trailers, saying that it feels very much like whoever is behind the script has played D&D themselves. Instead of being serious and gritty, the vibe seems to be playful.

Of course, the draw behind D&D for most players is the ability to create their own original characters who will be members of a party—and the party in Honor Among Thieves is made up of a charming crook and a band of unlikely adventurers. Set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, these antiheroes will embark on a heist that goes wrong…and have hilarious exploits in the meantime.

Oh, and did I mention it stars my favorite Chris, Chris Pine?
