It’s been eight long years since Dexter left our screens…and left us with a lot of unanswered questions! It was announced in late 2020 that the show would be returning for a 10-episode limited series, and at long last, we’re getting our first bit of information about it. (If you haven’t watched the SDCC Dexter panel…spoilers ahead. Oh, and you can watch the panel here.)

The revived series not only brings back Michael C. Hall as the titular character, but also reunites the Dexter crew with the original showrunner, Clyde Phillips (seasons 1-4) for a 10-episode limited series which is—get this—premiering on November 7, 2021!!!!

Now, the panelists were careful to say that this is not the Dexter we left at the end of season eight, but a new version of Dexter, in a new setting, with new relationships, such as Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), chief of police AND Dexter’s new girlfriend. This is not Dexter season 9 so much as it is a mini series, hence the new title Dexter: New Blood. The new series acknowledges that time has passed, and Dexter is now known in this small New York town as “Jim Lindsay” and we assume that none of Dexter’s new friends know of his past as a serial killer.

Though this may seem like a completely different Dexter, Jennifer Carpenter and John Lithgow are listed on the cast list for the series, so it does look like we will be seeing some familiar faces…and probably one familiar room in particular—the kill room. Though the panelists were extremely tight-lipped about what to expect from the new series, showrunner Clyde Phillips did promise that the ending will “blow up the internet.”

I, for one, can’t wait to see what that means, but for now, I guess I’ll just watch the teaser trailer (below) on repeat until November 7. The Dark Passenger awaits.
