After what seems like an eternity, the fifth season of Lucifer is just around the corner. This trailer gives us a good idea of what to expect when new episodes premiere…or does it?
At the end of season four, Lucifer ended up back “downstairs” in his role as the Prince of Hell. It was only a matter of time before our favorite fallen angel found his way back to Los Angeles and to Chloe…but as the trailer clearly shows us, not everything is as it seems.
This first glimpse into the season appears to disclose the season’s big plot twist—that Lucifer’s twin Michael is trying to take his place on Earth. While it’s likely that the major new character (also played by Tom Ellis) will be an important part of the season, it doesn’t seem probable that this is the only twist that awaits viewers. Since season 6 has been confirmed as being the show’s last, chances are that the introduction of Michael will spawn a larger arc to be resolved a season from now. After all, producer, writer, and showrunner Ildy Modrovich hinted recently that they have a giant story that “just needed to be told.”
Season 5 Part 1 premieres August 21 only on Netflix.
