First look at Olivia Colman in “The Crown”

by The Collected Mutineer

I would argue that Netflix’s hit The Crown is one of the most daring shows available today. Not only does it focus on the public and private life of a living monarch, but it is ambitious in its determination to tell the whole story. While the first two seasons centered around a younger Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip, we are moving into a different facet of history now—which means we’re getting a newer (but older) cast. Olivia Colman has stepped into the shoes of Elizabeth, and yesterday we received our first look at her in this iconic role.

This teaser is a mere 21 seconds long but we get an intriguing shot of Colman in classic royal garb, as well as the season three release date of November 17, 2019.

The glimpse of Colman is incredibly brief (not even five seconds), but it’s already obvious to me that she was the perfect choice to carry on the part originated by Claire Foy in the first two seasons. Colman will be joined by Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.

I’ll just be here, waiting for a full-length trailer. And you’ve still got time to catch up on seasons one and two, available to stream on Netflix now.
