It’s been a few days since the sixth annual Her Universe Fashion Show at San Diego Comic-Con, but the Collective crew is still talking about the amazing designs that ruled the runway. As Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein likes to say, geek chic invaded the con and was there to stay!
This year’s theme, “The Power of Fashion,” was inspired by the Netflix hit She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Each of the pieces designed specifically for the fashion show encompassed a sense of power; be it character strength, physical prowess, or just the unexplainable feeling that an amazing piece of clothing can give you. Fashion can be transformative and evocative, especially when it’s influenced by the biggest fandoms around, ranging from classic Star Wars to newbie Unicorn Store.

The show opened with Her Universe’s newest releases, designed by last year’s winners, as well as show-stopping moments and exciting announcements. But the part that has everyone talking is, of course, the competition itself. There were 24 original designs and each one earned that coveted spot on the runway.
Some of our favorite pieces included:
- Catwoman Origins by Kendra Raymond (@aml_designs)
- The Night Queen by Cindy Guillermo Heselton (@sinnanoms)
- Duck Couture (Wooo-ooo!) by Liz Todd (@ambrose_cosplay)
- The Spirit of Hope by Lisa Truong (@a_siren)
- Maleficent by Jill N Nofziger (@jillnndesign)
And the pinnacle of excitement? We were incredibly pleased that our two biggest faves happened to win the night!
Judges winner – Adria Renee for her Destination: Isla Nublar look inspired by Jurassic Park
Audience winner – Sarah Hambly for her Bodak Green look inspired by Marvel’s Loki
I know, right?? The Her Universe Fashion Show is a major highlight for The Collective every year, and we can’t wait for 2020. Until next time, fashionistas!
