Fanfic Wednesday: “Skye Full of Stars”

Skye Full of Stars by Agent17

Pairing: Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Word Count: 7,253

Author’s Summary:

Phil Coulson just wanted a quiet life, one where Skye was happy and nothing went wrong. He didn’t plan to fall for the hot archer that worked at his local coffee shop, but sometimes the best things are unplanned. Now if he could just keep the rest of his life from falling apart, maybe he could actually enjoy being in love for once.

My Thoughts:

Searching for this week’s fanfic rec, I knew I was going to need so much fluff. This past weekend was a kick in the teeth. Avengers: Endgame was such an emotional rollercoaster. I knew we were going to need some comfort.

Again, fan fiction has created a pairing I didn’t even think about and now I must have. “Skye Full of Stars” is a short fic, only two chapters published so far, but the story being built already feels like a nice hug of happy emotions, with just a touch of first date angst. And seriously, who would have thought Phlint would become a ship ready to set sail on?

This fic is set in a real-world AU with no actual superheroes, but Marvel Comics do exist. Clint’s best friends are Natasha (of course), Steve, Steve’s husband(!), Bucky, and Hunter (from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for those who do not watch, but really you should. It is the best Marvel TV show out there). Their weekly bitching session reminds me of when my friends and I go out for drinks at the end of a craptastic week.

A young Skye is perfect as well. Coulson is already such a father figure to her in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., having him as her foster father is brilliant.
