More frightening than fiction: This is “Lore”

by The Collected Mutineer

Ever since listening to the Wayward Podcast, I’ve found myself once more immersed in the world of podcasts. I hadn’t listened to any for years, but now I’m knee deep in a few different series—and by knee deep, I mean I’m 100% obsessed with Aaron Mahnke’s “Lore.”

If you’re a frequent reader of The Collective, you might also be a fan of Supernatural. And if you’re a fan of Supernatural, then “Lore” is definitely for you. Started in 2015 by supernatural thriller author Mahnke as an experiment, the podcast episodes explore different folkloric and modern stories of events that aren’t easily explained. Some are ghost stories, others are simply odd occurrences—but all of them were reported as truth at some point in history. These true-life tales are all painstakingly researched and beautifully recanted by Mahnke’s hypnotizing voice. I may be a few years late in jumping on this bandwagon, but I’m on it nonetheless.

I’m not even halfway through the episodes, so I don’t want to go into too much detail. But I do know that the podcast was recently adapted for the small screen thanks to Amazon Prime, and that is definitely where I’m headed next. Do you like creepy stories? Do you like history? Do you like feeling a chill or two down your spine? Then join me in listening to this captivating retelling of stories ranging from ancient times to recent accounts.

“Lore” can be found on iTunes.
