What makes her a hero: The trailer for “Captain Marvel” is here

Here at The Collective, we love Captain Marvel. We’ve written about her before (namely here and here), but today is an entirely different level of squeeing. That’s right, the first trailer for the newest MCU film dropped this morning and (you guessed it) broke the internet. Marvel trailers tend to do that. Take a look below.

Is it the best trailer ever produced? While some have argued that it could have been more compelling, you can’t deny the energy and symbolism it exudes. While it expands on the first glimpse photos released by Entertainment Weekly, and gives us an idea of what the film will be like, there is set of images I can’t get out of my head. We see Carol fall, multiple times, throughout the trailer—as a young girl, as a trainee, and as a superhero. But each time, she picks herself up and dusts herself off. It might be a little cliche, but in today’s political and cultural climate, I think it’s exactly what we need to see: a woman who doesn’t give up, no matter the opposition she faces. A woman who isn’t perfect, but who makes herself a hero.

Watch out, Thanos.
