I’ll admit it. I’m tired of remakes. Sick of revivals. Lately, it feels like everyone from Disney to Buffy is returning to either our TV screens or our cinemas. While some reboots, like Will and Grace, have made me happy there are others I find frustrating (LOL @ ROSEANNE). My general rule of thumb is that if a show wasn’t suddenly or surprisingly cancelled (a la Firefly or Pushing Daisies) then you probably don’t need to bring it back or reboot it. Well, at least that’s what I thought until I heard that my girl Murphy Brown was making her own comeback. The original sitcom, which ran from 1988 to 1998, focused on the brash, opinionated, badass titular character and her career in news and media.
Murphy Brown was never a stranger to politics or current events, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that creator Diane English has stated the new show will continue that tradition. One episode will center its dialogue on the #MeToo movement, while promos promise discussions regarding President Trump. Not familiar with the original show? Check out the promos below to get a feel for it. Murphy Brown returns to CBS on September 27.
