My Thoughts:
Ah, the fun world of fanfic continues to introduce me to pairings I never thought about, but absolutely cannot live without now. Where has Githan been all of my fandom life!
Ever since the character of Ethan Rayne was introduced in season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I have been fascinated by the character. Especially when his ties to Giles was revealed. Ethan’s capture and subsequent disappearance from the series in season four irked me. That seemed to signal the end of any chance of more Ripper stories. Then there was the cancelled-before-it-even-had-a-chance young Giles series. Such a waste of a tease to cool back story for a character.
Finding fanfics taking place during Giles’s Ripper days is strangely more difficult that one would think. Pre-Buffy Giles is just ripe with material for fanfic writers. I may have to take the plunge and contribute some of my own soon and you bet it will include plenty of Githan.
This particular bit of fic takes place at the end of the Githan relationship as Giles decides to go and become a Watcher as his family wishes him to do. It is sweet and heartbreaking, but helps give context to why Ethan kept popping up in Sunnydale despite knowing he would be caught there.
