Author’s Summary:
He has been on the road for two years, and he is exhausted.
He’s almost accepted that he will never see London (John) again—almost. But then there are nights like tonight, where he is weak, and all he can think of is the warmth of the flat they once shared, the crackle of the fire in the hearth, the teasing smile playing at the corner of John’s lips, the boxes of half-eaten Chinese takeaway balanced precariously in their laps. He aches at the memory of it, at the realisation that it is something he may never experience again.
My Thoughts:
I first found this story as a one-shot back in April, and was hooked. A season 3 fix it fic, “A Home for Us” portrays Sherlock and John’s reunion post-Reichenbach as very different. There is no Mary, but instead an even more complex relationship between our Baker Street Boys. John has spent the last two years grieving, not falling in love with a woman—so Sherlock’s unexpected return is cause for joy, frustration, grief, and eventual healing in a completely different way than what season 3 portrayed. The one-shot has now been updated into a multi-chapter fic and is a WIP…so if works in progress aren’t your jam, you may want to wait a little bit before starting. I, for one, just got an update in my email today and I am 100% going to cut this rec short so that I can go read a new chapter.
