Fanfic Wednesday: “the lost generation”

fanfic wednesday

Pairings: Jily (James Potter & Lily Evans) and WolfStar (Sirius Black & Remus Lupin)
Author Warnings: None
Word Count: 337,854 (And Counting)

Author’s Summary:

The Marauders era at Hogwarts, Voldemort’s rise to power and the subsequent war, family loyalties and dishonor, and the struggles of friendship in a difficult time.

Thoughts:

I can’t get enough the Marauders era. Maybe it is because the stories of James, Lily, Sirius, Remus, Peter, and Severus are all open to great interpretations for fans with many answering the call in their fan fiction. “The lost generation” is certainly one of the best fanfics I have found that sticks close to cannon (a fact that is not super important to me, but I’m always impressed when someone can manage it).

Yes, that word count is super high and the fic has not been completed yet. 94 chapters in and the group is only halfway through their sixth year at Hogwarts. It may seem intimidating, but I promise the story is worth it.

What makes the time and effort worth it is how much Jennbob fleshes out every character in her writing. The budding love story between Sirius and Remus (which I know is purely a fanfic thing) is beautifully done. James and Lily’s antagonistic relationship feels authentic without making James come off as a creeper. Peter Petigew’s eventual betrayal (while still unforgivable) seems inevitable in light of how she paints the relationship between the four boys.

Jennbob doesn’t just concentrate on the Maruaders and Lily. She expands on Narcissa Malfoy and her struggles with starting her own family as well as Severus Snape and Regulus Black as the two are seduced by the Death Eaters. Her building on these three important characters in The Deathly Hallows really adds to the foundation J.K. Rowling constructed.
