The Who-niverse Lights Up SDCC 2018

San Diego Comic Con International

Day 1 of SDCC has ended, and pretty much all I did today was squee over Doctor Who.

A hotel room misadventure caused us to arrive too late to get into the DW Hall H presentation, but we eagerly followed along on social media and ICYMI, there’s a new Doctor in town and she is fierce. Here is the season 11 trailer for Doctor Who that dropped this morning at Comic Con:

Even though we missed the panel, we still enjoyed a DW alumnus: our beloved Captain Jack (John Barrowman) came back to SDCC with his ever-popular Anything Goes! panel. This year, we thought ahead and brought along cocktails to really enjoy Barrowman’s sassy and saucy snarkfest, which of course is accompanied by some fabulous fashion.

He debuted “Captaina Americana” and proudly said that he wore it to show that he, as a proud gay man and a naturalised American, can embody the American dream. He also sang to us, and any day you can hear John Barrowman sing is a good day.

We had thought that our Doctor Who squeeing for the day would end there, but later, as we sat in the Her Universe fashion show, we had a very special last-minute addition to the models.

That’s right, Thirteen herself came and strutted the runway, and made us all love her even more than we thought we could. And after she’d taken her bows, she left the stage with some sage words: anyone of any age, race, or gender can be the Doctor because you’re the Doctor.

I can’t wait for season 11.
