Convention season is upon us once again, and March 23-25, 2018, I am attending one of my favorite cons in Southern California, WonderCon in Anaheim. I am covering events for Saturday, so here are three things to be on the lookout for at the convention this year.
Blacks in Entertainment Panel

On Saturday at 2pm in room 209, this panel will focus on “Designing for the Culture”, and features Evan Narcisse (writer, Black Panther), Travis Williams (VP, Lightstorm Ent), Charles Babb (CEO, Fairchild Consortium), Ryan Benjamin (DC and game artist), Kevin Grevioux (writer/actor), Eric T. Elder (CEO, Online Worlds Ent), Leon Pryor (Microsoft developer), and Kadeem Hardison (writer/director/actor). I’m all about hearing what these young black men have to say about the influx of black entertainment in Hollywood right now. Really wish there were some black women represented–guess I’ll have to go up and ask why!
The All Female Show Runners’ Panel

Room 300B on Saturday at 5pm is going to be a lot of fun. Top film and TV showrunners Amy Berg (Counterpart), Sera Gamble (The Magicians), Gillian Horvath (Primevil: New World), Erin Maher (Freakish), Willow Polson (Triune), Kay Foster (Heroes, American Odyssey), and Kimberly Jessika (founder of KidPire TV Network) will be discussing the role of women in television and the challenges that come along with showrunning while female.
A Series of Unfortunate Events Screening

Honestly, I have a feeling this Saturday 7pm panel in North 200A will be the most difficult to get into because of who the moderator is. Nathan Fillion (!!!) will host a screening of Netflix’s original show that both me and my daughter love. If you plan on attending this event, it’s probably best to arrive early, but if you take my seat, we’re gonna have problems…
