Today, I’d like to deviate a little from pop culture. Hurricane Harvey (now downgraded to Tropical Storm Harvey) has caused devastation across coastal Texas. Rain and flooding are expected to continue. This is a serious, life-threatening situation and fatalities have already been reported from cities like Houston and Rockport. If you are capable and willing to help those who find themselves in need during this natural catastrophe, please keep reading.

There are so many ways to lend assistance that it can be hard to know where to start. I’ve split these posts and resources up by location. Even if you aren’t in Texas, you can still lend a hand!

If you’re in Texas:

Map of shelters, volunteer opportunities, etc.

Texas food banks

Blood Donations

Become a Red Cross volunteer

If you’re outside of Texas

Family Business Beer Company’s Crowdrise Fund

Red Cross Donations (OR text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation)

Global Giving Relief Fund

This list barely scrapes the surface of ways we can all help flood victims, but hopefully it will give you a starting place. If you’d like to do even more, check the #hurricaneharvey tag on Twitter for updates on volunteer and donation opportunities. We may be in the midst of political strife, but we can band together now. We may not have true leadership at the top, but we have people risking their lives and helping others where it counts. We are stronger together, and we can make a difference in the lives of those affected during this catastrophe.

P.S. To all our readers and friends in affected areas: we don’t know when you will read this, but you are in our thoughts. We hope that you are safe and dry, and that this storm will pass soon. If you can check in with us to let us know your situation, please do!
