I’ve written about my love of British history on this blog before, but I’ve never had the chance to squee about how much I admire the story of Queen Elizabeth II. I binged season 1 of the Netflix series The Crown while I was on vacation in London about a month ago, and was wowed by the show’s ability to explore both fact and fiction. So much of the royal family’s life is documented, and yet Elizabeth is known for being a private individual. The result? Speculation, rumors, and myths about what has gone on behind the closed doors of Buckingham Palace.
Long story short: this show is fantastic. And we just got the trailer for season 2:
This season promises to explore the turmoils that followed Elizabeth from 1956 to 1963. As she strove to keep Great Britain afloat in an ever-changing world, she also dealt with personal struggles, scandals, and much more. But regardless of plot, we can count on stellar performances, beautiful music, and a mostly accurate look the history behind what shaped the world as we know it.
I can’t wait to see what Claire Foy and Matt Smith have in store for us! Season 2 premieres on Netflix on December 8, 2017.
