At San Diego Comic Con 2017, the Star Trek: Discovery showcased the newest iteration of the sci-fi dynasty, and it looks really, really good. My biggest issue? Shelling out more money for another TV app exclusive.
I already shared the ST:D trailer, but here it is again, in case you missed it.
According to the press release:
The show will launch on CBS All Access on Sunday, September 24th following the broadcast premiere on CBS Television Network that night. After premiere night, all new episodes will be available on-demand weekly on Sundays exclusively for ABS All Access subscribers in the U.S.. The 15-episode season will be released in two chapters. The first eight episodes will run from Sunday, September 24 through Sunday, November 5. The season will then resume with the second chapter in January 2018.
For $6/mo, the All Access app gives subscribers access to CBS shows as well as exclusive content, which includes The Good Fight, some Big Brother behind the behind the scenes and now, ST:D. The strange thing is, much of CBS’ televised content is available over at CBS.com for free (with cable provider info), making it feel like CBS is marketing Star Trek: Discovery as THE BIG reason to purchase the app.
Still, with a strong black woman like Sonequa Martin Green (“First Officer Michael Burnham”) at the helm and Jason Isaacs (“Captain Gabriel Lorca”), Shazad Latif (Lieutenant Ash Tyler”), and Mary Weissman (“Cadet Sylvia Tilly”) pushing forward the Star Trek legacy, this show is definitely worth checking out when it premieres on the TV network Sunday, September 24. Give it a go, and maybe add another costly fandom obsession to the growing list.
