This year, on January 28-29, The NHL All Star Games will be held in Los Angeles, California and yeah, I’m excited for this event to come to my city. Don’t be mistaken, Los Angeles and the adjacent Orange County are hockey towns. We have two pretty popular hockey teams in the LA Kings and the Anaheim Ducks who work out of the local NHL arenas, Staples Center and Honda Center (as well as an AHL arena and Kings farm team in Ontario, Ca), which makes for a hometown rivalry of legends and a chance for Southern California to host the 2017 ASG. Tickets to the actual All Star Game, which is, from what I gather, two days of frivolous skills challenges and 4 division-wide teams playing a “game” in which they don’t check each other and skate with Wookie masks on, cost $300 or more, but tickets to the Fan Fair are only $20/day.
In other words, on this very fan-centric weekend held in a hockey town, I will be attending Fan Fair in my favorite Sidney Crosby shirsey, dragging my kid along behind me as I geek out over hockey for an entire weekend with other hockey goons.
This year, the Fan Fair starts early, opening the doors on Thursday, January 26 through Saturday, January 28 at the LA Convention Center’s West Hall, offering hockey fans family-friendly interactive games and attractions, special appearances, trophy and memorabilia displays, live TV and radio broadcasts and dozens of other exciting activities. You can visit the website for more info and to buy tickets. While this isn’t your typical fan convention, there will be some pretty cool things to do and see if you are into the hockey and for twenty bucks, the low price can’t be beat.
If you’re planning on heading to Fan Fair or the ASG, hit me up. I’ll be at LA Live, Staples Center and the Convention Center on Saturday, Jan 28 hoping for a glimpse of my faves.
xoxo
