5 Sports Films You Have To Watch

I’ve loved action packed, full-of-feels sports themed films since I was a kid. Even if you’re not a sports fan, these 5 movies will have you rooting for the home team and maybe get you thinking about the dynamics of the athletic world a little bit deeper than usual.

Remember the Titans

One of my absolute favorite movies with a stellar cast, this Disney classic is all about a high school football coach and his team brave enough to break color lines in 1970s middle America. I cry every single time, okay, no shame.

The Mighty Ducks

You’re not gonna escape a sports film list without hearing me wax eloquent about this film. Another Disney gem, let’s just say I really wanted to date a hockey player when I was in 6th grade and if this doesn’t move you, you’ve got a heart of stone.

This is all about brother feels and family values within the structure of a boxing film. You will shed tears. My husband shed tears. I shed tears. Regardless, there will definitely be tears. Also, Tom Hardy can get it.

A League of Their Own

This inspiring story of a fictional team mirrors the real life push for women’s softball during WWII. Everyone in this movie is aces, but I am especially fond of the characters that Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell play.

If you are a fan of hockey, football or any violent sport, this film is necessary and important to watch. It is shocking and sad and telling of an industry that seems to value cash more than players and makes me respect athletes even more. It’s not an easy watch, though, especially if you’re a sports fan, so be warned.
