Doctor Who News: Pearl Mackie Named New Companion for S10

The people over at BBC announced this week that the Doctor will get a new companion in the upcoming series 10, to begin filming this year. Pearl Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman, and will join Peter Capaldi in running from Daleks and other aliens while the pair travel through space and time for series 10, to air in 2017. According to what Mackie has told the BBC, her character, Bill, is “cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in.” In other Who News, it was announced in January 2016 that the head writer and executive producer of Doctor Who, Steven Moffat, will step down from the show, with series 10 being his last.

Moffat will be replaced by Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall and I can’t even pretend to be sad about the news.

Here’s to hoping that these changes will give Doctor Who a fresh start and exciting storyline that will keep audiences engaged and excited about this long running sci-fi show for years to come.
