The 100 Recap: Reactions to “Bitter Harvest”

The 100 has returned with a vengeance. Picking up three months after the events inside Mount Weather, the delinquents and Arkers were enjoying a tenuous peace with the Grounders. But peace cannot last in a world like this, where Clarke Griffin has been hailed as the Wanheda, the Commander of Death, and the Grounder-hating Pike is elected to be the new Chancellor of Arkadia.

Spoilers ahead!

When I write recaps, I tend to follow a distinct formula. But every now and then, an episode comes along that tends to summarize itself in a slightly different format. “Bitter Harvest” was exactly that; as I watched, my brain became a hotbed of every emotional reaction gif I’ve ever seen on the internet.

Exhibit A: Monty may not agree with the idea of demolishing villages in order for Pike’s plan of planting where the soil is richest to succeed…but he sure went with the group, didn’t he?

Exhibit B: Bellamy is still Pike’s right-hand man.

Exhibit C: Not only does the weird City of Light pill get rid of your pain and heartache, it has some side effects…such as making Jaha forget his only son Wells.

Exhibit D: On the one hand, it is lovely to see Raven smiling again. For a few moments, she resembles the cheerful girl from the Ark. But on the other hand, she doesn’t seem to have any free will under the influence of the pill, doing whatever ALIE and Jaha ask her to do. Including hacking into the Ark’s tech in order to search for ALIE 2.0 (which apparently ALIE’s creator took into space with her).

Exhibit E: King Roan delivered none other than Emerson to Clarke, and the Commander lets Clarke decide what will be done with the last mountain man. Instead of ordering his death, Clarke sentences him with banishment, and offers a final bone-chilling sentiment; he is the last of his kind, and Clarke wishes him long life.

Exhibit F: RIP Zoe Monroe.

Exhibit G: ALIE’s maker didn’t end up on the Ark, but on the lost 13th station. Which was named…wait for it…POLARIS. Drop some letters, and bam: the grounder capital of Polis.
