**** NEWS FLASH – SPOILERS AHEAD ****
After methodically closing all the breaches/portals except the one in Star Labs, Harry (Tom Cavanagh), Barry (Grant Gustin) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) set off on their journey through the “rabbit hole” to Earth 2. Once there, they have 48 hours to find Zoom, defeat him, save Harry’s daughter Jessie, and return to Earth 1. If they don’t return, that means the mission failed and Jay needs to close the portal, leaving Barry and Cisco trapped on Earth 2.
Added to the race against time is the quest to repair the portal, which was rendered unstable after the trio jumped through it due to the overload of energy from all the closed portals.
Upon arrival on Earth 2, Harry finds himself constantly redirecting Barry and Cisco, who are enamored with the parallel world. It’s a magical mixing of eras gone by with technology not even discovered yet, which proves to be extremely intoxicating for these two super scientist geeks.
Once securely in Harry’s office, Cisco attempts to “vibe” Zoom’s location; unfortunately the goggles Harry created for Cisco aren’t working. Seems Earth 2 generates a different wavelength than Earth 1 and the frequency is out of balance therefore throwing the goggles out of sync.
The goggles aren’t the only thing out of sync. Turns out Barry/Flash’s doppelganger still works in forensic science at the CCPD, but his boss isn’t Joe West, but Iris (Candice Patton), and he’s married to her.
Barry/Flash finds this info out the hard way when he poses as Barry from Earth 2 to find out what the CCPD of Earth 2 knows about the whereabouts of Zoom.
He also discovers his Mother is alive on Earth 2 and has the opportunity to speak with her on the phone, allowing him an opportunity to find some closure.
The kicker is Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) is a lounge singer and there is no love lost between him and Barry from Earth 2, which is extremely hard for Barry/Flash to digest.
It is this dynamic that puts Team Flash’s mission to save Jessie in jeopardy because Barry/Flash finds himself drawn to his Earth 2 family with a desire to fix what’s wrong, especially after Killer Frost, AKA Caitlin from Earth 1 (Danielle Panabaker), and Deathstorm, AKA Ronnie from Earth 1 (Robbie Amell), come in search of a meta, and Joe is critically injured in the process.
This forces Barry/Flash to reveal his identity, which is just what Killer Frost and Deathstorm were hoping for, since they work for Zoom, who has special plans for the Speedster.
Flash’s battle with these two ends in a draw when Flash ricochets Deathstorm’s fireball back at Killer Frost, which knocks her down and sends Deathstorm to her rescue, giving Flash the perfect exit.
Harry is furious. Now Zoom knows they are on Earth 2, which makes their mission all the more difficult. Harry’s anger is amplified when Barry/Flash chooses his Earth 2 family over the mission, leaving to be with Iris by Joe’s bedside at the hospital.
Looks like Barry/Flash was able to fix his Earth 2 family after all when just before Joe dies, he tells Barry to take care of Iris.
With Joe’s passing, Iris is hell bent on tracking down and eliminating Killer Frost and Deathstorm. Knowing bullets are useless against these two, Barry/Flash brings in Cisco with a neutralizing device he created.
Iris is not thrilled about bringing Cisco along, but he is adamant that only he operate the neutralizer, so she reluctantly agrees.
The show down with Killer Frost and Deathstorm is amplified when Cisco’s doppelganger appears from the shadows. He too is evil, and has learned how to use his “vibing” ability to a much more superior level than Cisco. Going by the name Reverb, he is actually the one working for Zoom while Killer Frost and Deathstorm are his minions.
Reverb tries hard to turn Cisco to the dark side, but Cisco will have none of it.
As can be expected this meeting goes from bad to worse. Trigger happy Iris starts shooting just as Flash shows up.
Reverb joins the battle showing off his talent, knocking people out with a sonic wave. His first target is Iris’ partner, but he quickly uses his powers on Flash when he’s pre-occupied trying to get Iris and Cisco out of the crossfire. Deathstorm tag teams with Reverb taking alternate shots at Flash who is lying lifeless on the ground.
Before the two of them can put an end to Flash, Zoom shows up. Furious for disobeying orders to not harm any speedsters, he kills both Deathstorm and Reverb.
He spares Killer Frost because he heard her warning both of them to stop.
With a limp and lifeless Flash in his arms Zoom disappears, taking him to the same dungeon he’s been holding Jessie. As Flash comes to, he sees Jessie, telling her he’s there to save her.
This does not go unnoticed by Zoom, who tells Flash “this is the last place you will ever see.”
Meanwhile back on Earth 1….
In an effort to defeat Geomancer (Adam Stafford), a meta that creates earthquake like tremors with his fists, Joe insists Jay (Teddy Sears) use Velocity 6 to regain his speed and take this meta down for good. Jay refuses, he knows oh too well the dangers involved, confessing it was taking too much of it that caused him to lose his speed, not Zoom.
By creating a safer version, Velocity 7, Caitlin persuades Jay to become the Flash. Velocity 7 does the trick, but wears off before Jay can complete the task. Fortunately Joe’s a quick shot and hits Geomancer in the shoulder before he can destroy Jay.
With only 24 hours left on the clock it’s crunch time for everyone.
Can Jay get the portal re-stabilized?
AND – Will the gang on Earth 2 be able to free Flash and Jessie before time runs out?
