Sometimes who we really are doesn’t emerge until we are confronted with conflict.
**** NEWS FLASH – SPOILERS AHEAD ****
Cisco’s (Carlos Valdes) hope for a romantic evening with Kendra (Ciara Renee) is quickly dashed when a mysterious “magician” shows up in Central City hell bent on killing her. With no clue as to who this villain is and why he wants Kendra dead, plus the fact that Team Arrows has limited exposure to magic, Barry/Flash (Grant Gustin) suggests they take Kendra to Starling City to keep her safe and enlist the aid of Oliver Queen/Arrow (Stephen Amell) and his Team.
Oliver isn’t thrilled that Team Flash has now put his team, who doesn’t have superpowers, at risk, but will never turn his friends away.
When they discover, with the aid of Malcolm Meryln (John Barrowman), that the “magician” is actually Vandal Savage (Casper Crump), an immortal, with powers greater than any of them possess, they realize teaming together may be the only way they can beat him.
The truth of who Kendra is unravels when a mysterious winged man takes her. Turns out she is an ancient Egyptian Priestess named Shayera who has been reincarnated over and over again for the past 4,000 years. She and the winged man, AKA Carter/Prince Khufu (Falk Hentschel), were soul mates in ancient Egypt and Vandal has tracked them down every lifetime and killed them. With each kill Vandal becomes stronger.
Carter feels Kendra needs to let her true “Hawkgirl” self emerge in order to fight Vandal. All of this is beyond overwhelming for Kendra, but after some soul searching, she decides to embrace her destiny. She needs to focus on who she is and believe.
Added to the task of taking down Vandal is tracking down the Staff of Horace, which would make Vandal unstoppable. Oliver summarizes that Kendra is drawn to that which will destroy her, which would mean the staff is in Central City. Unfortunately, Flash and Arrow are too late. Vandal has already claimed the staff for himself and wastes no time using it to his advantage. With a blast to the ground he sends a ripple explosion through the church it was hidden in. Good thing Flash is faster than the blast, getting him and Arrow out before the building blows.
Through all of this, Harry (Tom Cavanagh), Wells from Earth 2, has been busy recreating his Velocity 6 serum, which it turns out is what he used to give Jay/Flash from Earth 2 (Teddy Sears) his speed. Harry is determined to help Flash increase his speed so he can beat Zoom. The problem is, it’s looking more and more like he’s doing it for himself, not Flash, which is Jay’s concern. Doesn’t even look like almost dying from an accidental gunshot at the hands of Patty (Shantel VanSanten) will be enough to sway him to destroy the serum.
Speaking of Patty, I’m guessing Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Barry will soon have to fess up to what Star Labs is really about.
And, Oliver discovers his former girlfriend was lying about loosing their baby, he is very much alive and well. So much for Oliver’s having everything he wants with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), but will he fess up or keep it a secret?
With Vandal temporarily MIA after the explosion, Team Flash and Team Arrow head out of town to a secure location where they can learn more about their elusive opponent and his staff, plus pull together a plan of attack. It will also give Carter time to help Kendra find her inner warrior, which he believes is their only chance of survival.
In the hopes of completely eliminating any fight, Malcolm arranges a meeting between himself, Arrow, Flash and Vandal. All this accomplishes is Vandal giving them an ultimatum. Turn over Carter and Kendra in 24 hours or he will wipe out both Central and Starling City.
Knowing they need to polarize the magnetic pull of the staff, Cisco creates gauntlets for Arrow to wear in hopes they can get the staff from Vandal and use it’s power on him.
With the 24 hours up, Arrow and Flash bring Kendra/Hawkgirl and Carter/Hawkman to Vandal in chains. Their plan to over power Vandal falls apart quickly. Kendra fails at accessing her power and Arrow is too distracted with his domestic issues to fight effectively. Vandal takes control, killing Kendra and Carter and blasting Central City.
Fortunately, Flash gets a jump on the blast and while he’s running, finds himself “ghosting” which allows him to time jump. Going back in time to their meeting with Vandal, the two Teams get a second chance at defeating Vandal.
Oliver talks Cisco into working with Kendra, instead of Carter. She needs someone who knows what it’s like to unravel their inner powers.
With Cisco by her side, Kendra musters up the strength to face her past in ancient Egypt. Seeing her and Carter’s first death at the hands of a jealous Vandal during a meteor storm opens her eyes to the key to defeat him. During the storm Vandal’s staff is infused with power from the meteors while at the same time he proclaims “my hate will be everlasting, my invention will never die, and I will follow you from this life to the next and to the next.”
This bit of info enables Cisco to add the finishing touch to the gauntlets. By securing a piece of meteor rock to the gauntlets, they will be able to polarize the staff.
Battle with Vandal – Take 2
This time all of Team Arrow accompanies Flash, Arrow, Hawkgirl/Kendra and Hawkman/Carter. Coming at Vandal from all sides, using each individual’s special skill allows Flash the opportunity to flash in and grab the staff from Vandal. Once secured he and Arrow blast Vandal, turning him into a pile of ash. Their job done, they walk away victorious.
Or are they?
Little do they know Malcolm has other plans. Scooping up Vandal’s ashes into an urn, repeating Vandal’s original curse and signing off with “You owe me one buddy.” it’s obvious we haven’t seen the last of Vandal Savage.
Mark your calendars for the premiere of “Legends of Tomorrow” on January 21, 2016.
Vandal Savage is back and determined to destroy the world and time itself. Will the combined efforts of heroes and villains prevent this from happening? Only time will tell.
