I went to see Trainwreck (because Amy Schumer is LIFE) and the movie broke, so I was able to go see Ant-Man for free! Thanks, movie Gods! That being said, I would have paid money for this film. I’ll admit I don’t watch Marvel films as often as I should but this one made me want to sit down and watch them all because holy cow, Marvel knows what they are doing. I had very low expectations for Paul Rudd in the role of Scott Lang, using the justification that “no one who was in 40 Year Old Virgin should enter the Marvel Universe” but he blew me away with his performance in the dramatic/action moments, and then excelled in the comedic moments here and there. But the winner, the character who stood out the most to me was Hope van Dyne (played by Evangeline Lilly). Hope was such a well-rounded strong female character, she showed vulnerability and emotion, but you also saw her ass-kicking abilities. She was able to fall in love and have a romantic storyline, but she didn’t NEED it to be in the film. If you haven’t already seen Ant-Man, I recommend this to anyone, adults and kids.
