This week, I’ve encountered gishers willing to show kindness, share a smile and do something stupid–all in the name of a scavenger hunt for charity and a man in a sock monkey hat. What is wrong with us, you ask? GiShWhes. I’ve broken down a few walls of my own, and learned that I’m capable of doing pretty much anything I set my mind to, including how to hug nine strangers at the same time (which has, incidentally, ruined me for Cinnabon) and plot my last night on earth (spoiler: it includes beer, red vines and fanfic).
I blame Misha, but long live MJL.
With 28 hours left on the clock, I can tell you that my teammates are capable of amazing and weird things, and, dude, they are really REALLY creative (and competitive).
The items that Team Mutiny has scratched off the list are impressive–and the wonders of technology allows for us to share pics of adorable piggies, the Collectress in a nun’s habit, semi-truck art and a multilingual version of “Carry on My Wayward Son” across multiple timezones. On Wednesday, I decided to brave traffic and head down to Santa Monica Promenade for a game of hopscotch with Gishers from across the state. These are the things I would usually do in a group, but I was on my own due to oceans and also scheduling conflicts. What started with a bout of social anxiety (I’m not great in crowds) and 5 hours of traffic turned into a velour-studded childhood game, that left me giggling with some of the nicest people I’ve met in a long time. Oh, and did I mention I got to hang out with fellow Gishers Ruthie Connell, Oscric Chau and Alaina Huffman? And that was before Katheryn Newton stopped by.
Don’t worry, I’ve got pictures and they are going up on Tumblr, after the hunt.
What impresses me the most about GiSHWhes is the concept it gives people– strangers, friends, family members. This hunt is an excuse to be silly and/or do something nice, both of which feel really awesome. Moral of the story? DO STUFF LIKE THIS MORE OFTEN.
Yes, I’m tired, yes, my friends are tired, but we are having so much fun and, well, I can sleep when I’m dead.
If I were to sum up my day in one word it would have to be: Invincible!!!
Oh how I love you, GisHWhes,
