I’ve been following the preproduction of The Shannara Chronicles for almost a year now. The upcoming MTV television series is based on the series of novels by bestselling author Terry Brooks. I
have read every one of Brooks’ Shannara books am a big fan of the novels and I’m very excited to see that the showrunners who gave us Smallville have decided to work with Brooks on developing his series for television.
When I attended the Shannara panel at SDCC 2015, many of the panelists, and, indeed, the audience, expressed disbelief over the network who gives us Teen Mom choosing to pick up something with such a grand and epic scope and narrative. Don’t write off Shannara due to the high brow/low brow polarization of popular culture, or, more bluntly, don’t let the network deter you from seeing the quality of this show. The first season of the show, which will consist of ten episodes, is based on the book The Elfstones of Shannara, which just so happens to be my favourite of all of Brooks’ works. The Shannara Chronicles promises to give us the high fantasy story that is devoid from many television networks, and it stars John Rhys-Davies as the elven king Eventine.

The Shannara Chronicles will premier on MTV in January 2016, and you can bet your right clavicle that I’ll be watching it.
