The Collectiva Diva’s Favorite 5 Scary Series on Netflix

Instead of the sappy Valentine’s day fodder you’re going to be bombarded with all weekend, I come bearing some seriously scary shows that will terrify you more than the price of a dozen roses on this ridiculously overpriced Hallmark holiday. Cuddle up with your significant other, and watch these films with a bucket of popcorn, a fluffy blanket and a flask of holy water.

Enjoy!

1) American Horror Story

The first 3 seasons of American Horror Story are available on Netflix and season 1 is a terrifying introduction to the actors who will create 3 very different stories with very different characters throughout. Pleather-covered killers, creepy doctors and unsolved murders make this a go-to for the burgeoning horror aficionado.

2) The Walking Dead

We here at The Collective LOVE The Walking Dead and, if you haven’t started the show yet, now is the time, my friend. Netflix has Seasons 1-4 and AMC is currently broadcasting season 5. If you love zombies and dystopian narratives, this is definitely the show for you.

3) Bates Motel

Season 2 of Bates Motel was recently added to Netflix, and this pleases me greatly. The familiar narrative of Norman Bates and his mommy issues indeed has an origin story, and this is it. Watch Norman go deeper into the darkness as he and his mother start their new lives together at the Bates Motel.

4) Twin Peaks

The only two seasons produced of the 1990s series, Twin Peaks has come to Netflix after the recent announcement of third season on Showtime in 2016 and I am of a mixed mind. The reason being, the first film terrified me and the television show is equally eerie. If you enjoy scary, backwoods occult action, this will definitely peak your interest.

5) Salem

The Salem Witch Trials is one of the most terrifying incidents in American history and the WGN series, Salem captures the intricacies of terror quite well. History buffs or those interested in the supernatural will enjoy this very scary rendition of a dark part of the American narrative.
