Author’s Summary
More than anything, Mike Taylor wanted to be ordinary. Being a genius, he learned early in life, meant people expected too much. A career at the MI6 Help Desk seemed the perfect way to guarantee a lifetime of obscurity, until he got a very unusual tech support call.
My Thoughts
I’ve been waiting SO LONG to rec this one. The time stamps show the passing of time and the slow development in Q’s and 007’s relationship: friendly acquaintances to flirty friends to something a little bit more. I am also a sucker for Q being a masterminding genius, and I felt it very natural to the character that he would originally try to hide his superior intellect and “blend in” so as to avoid extra responsibilities and expectations.
This fic also has the quintessential 00Q elements: Q’s obsession with tea, Bond’s slightly smarmy humour, and an all-around sense that these two could take over the world if they had a mind to. I’m more-than-slightly in love with this ship since the arrival of Ben Whishaw as Q, and “Ordinary Numbers” has everything I could possibly want in a fanfic: fluff, humour, romance, and of course explosions and danger.
Read if you love 00Q!
Until next time, shippers.
