Pairings: John Watson/Sherlock Holmes Word Count: 45,153
Author’s summary: John Watson is left-handed. He’s tried not to let it affect his life, but as any Lefty knows, that’s almost impossible.
Johnlock + magical realism = hell yes.
I read this one during my reccing hiatus this summer, and I made sure to write it down in my list of must-recs because it’s phenomenal.
No, really, with over 56,000 hits on AO3, I’m pretty sure we can call it a phenomenon. And once you read it, it’s easy to see why. Lifeonmars doesn’t really diverge too far from the canon; Sherlock and John still solves cases, Sherlock is still a big prat, and Moriarty is as evil as ever. However, with the simple inclusion of the right-handed ability comes a whole new depth and intricacy to the story-telling. This is why I love magical realism: it takes something we know and makes it something completely new. J.K. Rowling did it with Harry Potter, and Lifeonmars does it with Sherlock.
Read if you love Johnlock and/or magical realism.
Happy reading, shippers.
