Superhero Talk: New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Trailer Reveals Ronan the Accuser

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going galactic, having revealed a second extended trailer for its upcoming film Guardians of the Galaxy. Check out the new trailer below.

Just a quick spoilers warning for those who are unfamiliar with the comics. It’s about to get geeky here.

I have suspected since the end of Captain America: The First Avenger that Marvel would be bringing  us the Infinity Gauntlet story, and the credits scene in The Avengers proved it. The new Guardians of the Galaxy trailer shows us Ronan the Accuser, official bad ass of the universe (pictured belows).

Including Ronan the Accuser (played by Thranduil-fabulous actor Lee Pace)–who is a known sometimes-ally to Thanos, takes us one step closer to the Infinity Gauntlet. In the comics, Thanos gathers what is known as the Infinity Gems, while in the MCU they have been called “Infinity Stones.” It is likely that Thanos is going to be sending Ronan after another of the probable six Infinity Stones needed to complete the Gauntlet (so far we’ve seen that the Tesseract and the Aether are both Infinity Stones).

On a side note, some on the Internet believe a third Stone is present in Loki’s scepter, which is now in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s possession. But I digress.

Now that Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is firmly in phase two, we can expect more of Thanos to appear in the future, and Marvel has recently revealed that Josh Brolin will voice the character in GotG. And probably beyond that, as well, although nothing has been confirmed as yet.

Marvel’s diligent planning and careful crafting is paying off in spades. To create such a comprehensive vision with so many popular comic characters AND have well-written scripts and entertainment value? Hats off to you, Stan Lee and company, for doing something that most would have declared impossible.

See you around the galaxy, Marvel friends. I’m off to freeze frame Lee Pace’s face.
