Title:Then Comes a Mist and a Weeping Rain Author: Faith Wood
Pairings: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter Word Count: 21,139
It always rains for Draco Malfoy. Metaphorically. And literally. Ever since he had accidentally Conjured a cloud. A cloud that’s ever so cross.
Drarry was the first slash ship I ever shipped, and this was way before shipping referred to anything other than FedEx or heavy freighters. Every once in a while, I circle back to it, because it’s comfortable and familiar, like a favorite pair of jeans.
Faith Wood takes a common metaphor–the raincloud that follows around gloomy folks–and makes it literal for Draco. This is post-war eighth-year Hogwarts, (aka a EWE fic), and Draco is suffering from an intense amount of guilt. So when he conjures a cloud in Charms class, it sticks around as his own personal emotional barometer. The more upset Draco is, the more the cloud rains on him. Enter Harry Potter, who is determined to make the cloud disappear by brightening Draco’s mood. (literally and figuratively)
I stumbled across this fic after a particularly horrendous day (I felt like I had my own personal stormcloud over my head, like Draco) and this story made it better.
Read if you’re a Drarry fan or you need some magical fluff.
