Throwback Thursday: Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock had music careers. Sort of.

Happy pray-to-Castiel day, everyone!

I’m on way to Portland today, theoretically to research new nerd getaways to tell y’all about, but before I leave, I’m just going to do a quick throwback to a time when William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, AKA Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, performed live music and/or released music videos.

First up, Mr. William Shatner–the man with the world’s most distinctive speech pattern–performed his version of Bernie Taupin and Sir Elton John‘s “Rocket Man” at the 1978 Science Fiction Awards. I wonder if Shatner considers this his own personal theme song.

If you haven’t giggled enough already, now watch actor/poet/writer/photographer/Renaissance man Leonard Nimoy perform his musical ballad about the tale of a little hobbit named Bilbo. Notice that Nimoy is rocking the Mr. Spock haircut in this vid.

Curse it all. I’ll be singing this for the rest of the day.
