So, if you hadn’t noticed, it’s Supernatural week here at the Collective. Mostly because we wanted to fill the void in our hearts as we countdown to season 9, but also because we’re going to the Burbank Convention and we’re really f**king excited about it (yes, my Cas cosplay is currently in the works, but more on that in another post). So, instead of just one fanfic, you’ll get more than a dozen of my favorites. And because I’m the blogger, I’m shameless promo-ing my OTP: Destiel.

So warning, darling, if slash and a profound bond that ascends into the realm of the metaphysical isn’t for you, I suggest looking for recs someplace else, because obviously you took a wrong turn on the Internet.

A couple of these are stories that I’ve recced before, but I love them so much that they had to be included in my “Greatest Hits” list. There is now a part two to this list. 🙂 And now a part three!

Author’s Summary: Charlie is back in all her glory. The Winchesters have showed up on her doorstep and she’s making the best of it the only way she knows how. By being the little sister Dean never wanted and shipping the shit out of Destiel.

My Thoughts: Oh this one is fluffy in all the right ways, and if you’re not smiling by the end, then I’m pretty sure you’re not human. If for no other reason, read it for this: Castiel in skinny jeans.

God Ships Destiel by mtothedestiel

Author’s Summary: God ships destiel, and while he’s not willing to mess with free will, that doesn’t mean he won’t hit below the belt. Enter Gabriel and some archangel related hi-jinks, all in the name of true love and destiny.

My Thoughts: I love it when Gabriel plays matchmaker.

A Hole in the World by AnnelieseMichel

Author’s Summary: Dean Winchester never wanted to go home again. Going back to Lawrence meant people who knew what he was, who didn’t buy into the lie. But with a tragic accident, he’s back and dealing with the death of his father, the social stigma and objectification of being an out Omega, and the lingering aftermath of a long-ago crime.

My Thoughts: Please don’t turn away from this one just because it’s labelled Omegaverse. This one treats the trope as it should be treated: it uses the A/B/O dynamics for world-building, and AnnelieseMichel does it beautifully. It’s a W.I.P. but it’s well worth the read. Warning: Dean’s emotional trauma will hurt your feels, but it’ll be okay because Cas makes it better.

How A Righteous Man Raises a Rose by Swordofmymouth

Author’s Summary:  AU in which the apocalypse and angels and demons never happen, and Sam and Jess and Dean live together in a suburban lifestyle — and then suddenly, nothing is alternate universe at all. Told from Sam’s POV. Dean is compelled to tend a dead rose garden, if only Dean could remember why; and remember why it is so important.

My Thoughts: Oh man…have you ever read the Johnlock fic “Alone on the Water“? This is Supernatural’s ultimate angst-fest. This was one of the first Destiel fics I ever read, and believe you me, every time I go back to it, I bring some super glue because this one will break your heart. But I love it. It’s beautifully done and more than a little tragic, and this one is definitely in my top 3 Destiel fics.

Lakota Falls by Annehiggins

Author’s Summary: Love-at-first sight is supposed to be a myth. Even among Werewolves it’s rare. It’s also the last thing new Pack-leader Castiel wants to deal with. Worse, his instant-mate doesn’t believe in it or his own self-worth. And all of that? It just might be the least of their problems. 

My Thoughts: I made it my mission to read every Destiel fic I could, regardless of the kinks, tropes, or AUs. I read a LOT of Destiel, but I’m not much for Creature!fics, so I surprised myself when I really enjoyed this one. Why? I don’t know. I just did. It’s cute and smutty.

The Mirror by cloudyjenn

Author’s Summary: When Dean touches a strange mirror, he’s whisked away to one alternate reality after another and it doesn’t take him long to realize the universe is trying to tell him something.

My Thoughts: I love everything cloudyjenn does (Yes, I’m shamelessly promoing. Deal with it). What I love most about this one is that by having Dean visit alternate universes, she shows him that no matter what, it’s supposed to be Dean and Castiel. I love it. Love, love, love. I cried tears of joy at the end.

Peanut Butter-Pumpkin Wedding Cake by sparseparsely

Author’s Summary: The good ones are sometimes assholes and always taken.

My Thoughts: This one follows the cliches of every romantic comedy ever, but I can’t find it in me to care. This one is so sweet it will give you a cavity.

This is Not Convenient by cloudyjenn

Author’s Summary: If Castiel doesn’t find a mate soon, the council will assign him one. And Dean’s not about to let that happen.

My Thoughts: Oh look, another cloudyjenn fic. Surprise, surprise. This one takes an overdone plot (the forced marriage/bonding) and makes it fresh, funny, and way adorbs.

The Curse of a Hundred Loves by cymbalism219

Author’s Summary: The one where Dean comes a hundred times. Cas helps.

My Thoughts: What’s a rec list without a little PWP? This one is so hot it’ll curl your toes, melt your shoes…set your ovaries aflame…

This Thing Called Free Will by tracy_loo_who

Author’s Summary: Time is fluid, and Castiel can see how it will go because he can bend it on occasion.

My Thoughts: Here, have some angst. (But it’s well-written angst).

I Like You (Like Me) by carmexgirl

Author’s Summary: Dean’s the owner of his own pretty successful coffee shop, and he’s absolutely, totally not in love with the hot accountant guy who comes in every day. He’s way out of his league. Isn’t he?

My Thoughts: Every rec list needs a Coffeeshop AU. This one is cute and sweet and proves why this AU is so damn popular.

How To Take care of Angels and Little Animals by remivel

Author’s Summary: Gabriel is tired of having to listen to Castiel’s woes about the Winchesters, so he decides to take matters into his own hands… and turns Castiel into a furry pet for the Winchesters to take care of.

My Thoughts: Here is a Kitten!fic that I can get on board with. Throw in some Matchmaker!Gabriel and we have the fluffiest of the fluff. Love it.

Update 26 April 2015: Many of you have asked why “Twist and Shout” has not been featured on this rec list. I’m going to be honest: I haven’t read it. *shocked gasp* It’s true. I haven’t read what is considered by many to be THE Destiel fanfic. We all have triggers, or lines that can’t be crossed, and for me, that is anything involving soldiers and war because of memories too painful and personal to discuss here. However, my co-blogger, the Collectiva Diva, has read it, and based on her recommendation, I am including a link to the story below.
