The Lit Nerd’s Summer Reading: I don’t want to be Factionless

I had never heard of the 2011 Dystopic YA series by Veronica Roth until whisperings of a film started. Once again, I hate to see the movie before reading the book, so I decided to pick the first in a series of 3 books, the last of which will be released October 2013. Divergent is set in a society that is separated into 5 factions and the Factionless that have distinct personality traits and community  values. The narrator, Beatrice, is a young woman on a heroic journey that will transform not only the individual but the entire society, I’m guessing. If you enjoyed Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series, you will definitely enjoy this as well. I am not really into young adult lit, but in this as in THG, the writing is great, the characters develop well and the plot is interesting and diverse. I am excited for the film but even more excited to read the next two in the series, Insurgent and Allegiant.
